Dr. Andy is on a mission to develop educators and provide them with tools to make their schools and classrooms
Dr. Andy Parker was living what many call the American Dream. At age 38, he had a beautiful home, a new business, and a successful career. One single, catastrophic event – Hurricane Katrina – changed everything. With little left but the clothes on his back, Dr. Andy began to rebuild his life, his community, and his school. Turning tragedy into triumph, he focused on those in need around him – two of whom were fellow middle school principals wrestling to manage their own personal loss and responsibilities related to the storm with leading the restoration of their flood-damaged schools. Dr. Andy created and implemented a plan to organize 3 staffs and get their two schools, along with his, re-opened for students – a daunting task achieved in under 5 weeks!
Reflection and resolve from that experience led Dr. Andy to create his highly successful, proven G.R.E.A.T.! Leadership Philosophy™ for transforming classrooms, schools, organizations, and LIVES!
Dr. Andy was selected as Teacher and Administrator of the Year in his former school districts, and in his last principalship, he led a high school transformation and achieved amazing results:
The school’s rating soared from under-performing to high-performing.
Coaches and students secured 7 state championships in 5 years, compared to 1 in the school’s history.
The school’s dismal drop-out rate - one of the highest in Mississippi - decreased to one of the lowest in the state.
Senior classes jumped from receiving under $700,000 in scholarship offerings to over $5 million.
Physical altercations decreased to almost 0 during his tenure.
Dr. Andy has worked in rural, suburban, and urban public schools as a high school English teacher, middle and high school assistant principal and principal, and assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. He also has served as a leadership coach for Achievement Network, a national non-profit, and as Chief Schools Officer and Co-CEO of a group of charter schools in New Orleans.
An energizing, humorous, and frank speaker on issues about school leadership and social justice, Dr. Andy lives by his mantra Make Today G.R.E.A.T.! and is the Founder and Chief Happiness Officer at drandyparker.com.
